We support the formal internship programs at High Schools and Universities in our area.  Internship applicants are encouraged to contact us, complete appropriate paperwork and ask their supervisor to make arrangements with our executive director for an interview.  We only accept interns who are enrolled for credit in a formal internship program.  Interns are treated as employees and assigned duties that match their skills and goals while challenging them to learn and develop as individuals.  All interns are expected to present themselves professionally to our clients, modeling maturity, responsibility, and integrity.


We also have limited opportunities for students who select Equine therapy or therapuetic riding as the topic for their senior project to complete their hours of service.  If you wish to explore this area, contact us to discuss your project and goals.

All interns and senior project participants are required to show proof of insurance.

Allyson is our featured intern this fall/winter.  Allyson is a senior at a local high school and is working at Jake's Flat Farm as a high school intern for academic credit. 

She was a tireless volunteer this summer, participating in four exhausting summer camps and three workshops. 

This fall, Allyson worked with our programs 2-4 hours per day, during the school week, sometimes until 8pm if a favorite client was scheduled to ride.  She also helped to groom, tack and school horses as needed for our programs.

Allyson has a 4-H background and extensive trail riding experience.   She has a horse of her own, Rosie a palomino paint mare.  Allyson is also exceptional in working with small children and beginning riders. 

As a new graduate, Allyson has already been accepted to the college of her choice where she will attend this fall.  She is considering Occupational Therapy for her major.
